Hello everyone! :)

I have never been to this chat room before. I too like many others have been looking for WimMx. to download MP3. I have tired to; but its not connecting. For an about a week i thought maybe they were updating the site or doing maintenance but i am in to my third week now so i know something is wrong. So i have been searching via google for any mention of WinMx and here i am!

So i am to understand that the site is not coming back, (does this mean the end of mp3 on this site? :( :? :?

See my message just above this one. I read all the post on this page again and have downloaded the patch:

And guess what? IT WORKS. Just got my first song, since site has been off.

Thanks so much! :D :D :D

Within the last several hours, neither myself nor Smitty have been able to connect to the WPN. It seems that www.winmx.com has dropped off the radar. ...it also seems that www.frontcode.com has been taken down as well.

In light of the recent events brought to pass by the RIAA, I'm hoping that someone here can shed some light on the current situation.

Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

ITS NOT THE SAME AND DIFFERENT

Ok, now I'm confused... "it's not the same and different"
If it's not the same, then it must be different.
If it's not different, then it must be the same.
Hmmmm....... "this statement is false"

Well corporate America has once again trampled on the rights of us who choose to share our love of music with those having the same interests or may not have the finanacel means to purchace every new c.d. that comes out. I agree with Blackwolf (mx militia) piracy does pay! If you choose to call this piracy. After all dont you try on a shoe before you buy it?

it's interesting to find out what happened to my winmx connection problem.an alternative free p2p program i use also is kceasy.connects to gnutella, open ft,ares, and with an installer file, you can also get fast track(kazaa).simple to use,i started using it and only recently tried my winmx again to find the no connect problem.i like winmx, but maybe this other program might help others out for downloads.it also has a chat client built in.hope this helps others.

FYI, a "404 error" is unable to resolve host.
Meaning that you're probably one of the rare people who have entries in your hosts file other than the Windows default entry. Like I said this is rare, but considering that WinMX had a userbase in the millions until a few weeks ago it's bound to come up as an issue with some people. I'm about 75% done with a new version of the installer that will (hopefully) address and correct this problem.

i used the ws2-32.dll file to correct my problem in connection.i have a hosts file that is 256 kb in size to stop connection to spam on pages.anybody that has spybot and has installed the hosts file will similarily have extra entries in their hosts file.the dll file in the winmx directory is the better fix.maybe you should try to steer people towards this fix first.

Actually the new installer is done as of today. It will preserve any entries in the hosts file that do not contain references to winmx.com and only adds lines from the update that do contain references to winmx.com
In theory it should work with any version of Windows out there, but I want some more testing done before releasing this to the public. Expect to see this integrated with the current installer within a week.
It was always assumed that a small percenteage of people would have entries in their hosts file, but considering the WinMX user base was several million even a small percentage of people becomes a significant number.
Every solution for connecting people to the WPN to date has been viewed as temporary. There are no solutions in effect right now that are considered long-term. However long-term solutions are being worked on. Any fix that anyone comes up with right now will probably have to be changed shortly. The only exception would be if Frontcode suddenly came back and brought their original peer cache servers back online.

Hello all fellow users,

I am here waiting for a solution too. I am dead in the water as are the rest of you. I have talked to several users as well, and they are checking in on the progress.

Thanks to all who are trying to help the rest of us.
