DVD plays in black & white.. HELP!

Postby Dinlow on Wed Jul 14, 2004 5:46 am

Hi I wonder if you can help me,
I burnt a movie onto a disk as I have done many times before, but with one of my movies I found that, when loading into my DVD player, it goes black & white. Not just the disk either, the player menu and everything.
Is this because of something I forgot to do, I cant for the life of me think of what caused this.
The movie was originally in 2 parts but as I merged them together in TMPEnc (not plus), I then used TMPEnc DVD Author to do the DVD business. The picture is fine but in black and freeking white.
Please can you help me!?!

I'll guess that you have a PAL TV? Could you have had an NTSC dvd and your television doesn't recognize NTSC? Or else as you were authoring it could you have accidentally clicked greyscale or anything like that? To check the NTSC issue - does it play black and white on your computer as well, or just on your stand-alone dvd player. And you said you merged in TMPGEnc, but didn't mention anything about encoding. Were your original files avis or mpgs?

Its all okay now thanks dap. Sorry to waste your time, I think I got a little cocky. I thought I'd start the movie converting/disk burning from scratch, I'm not sure what it was but I HAD forgotten something as it plays fine now..

I have another question though.. Is it posible to remove subtitles (i.e. Chinese) from a downloaded avi file? Also there is a loud buzzing sound in the same avi, is it posible to rectefy that aswell??

No, not if they are embedded in the avi.

You can try, but I doubt it would be worth it... You would need to strip the audio from the file with something like VirtualDub and then use an audio editor to try and fix up the sound, then mux it back together with the video file with something like VirtualDub. Is it a new release (sounds like it) - if so, it might just be worth it to wait for a better version to come out.
