DVD downloads

Postby Spod on Sun Jun 26, 2005 4:10 pm

I've just started using BT - can download music fine, but movies is a problem - I've been downloading Stagecoach for 24 hours and have 8.5% - everything else has resulted in an error code.

Also, what do I do when I eventually get something? Windows Media Player is set up for music.

Thanks.

The important thing to look for with torrents are the number of seeds and peers. Seeders have the complete file and are only uploading it. Peers (also referred to as Leeches) may have anywhere from 0% to 99% of the file and are not only downloading but also uploading. The higher the number of seeds available, the faster the download.

What error code are you getting? If it's error connecting to tracker, it could be that the tracker is offline or that you don't have your ports forwarded properly if your using a router.

I suggest you read the BT section of the site if you haven't done so already.

As for what you do with it when it's finished downloading, it depends on the type of file. VLC will play most movie formats.

Ihave had connecting to tracker error codes, but it mainly has 'Failed!' where estimated time should be, and 'ERROR' below in red, followed by time (presumably of failure).

I don't have a router.

I have a 500k connexion, and it takes me about 5 hours to download a CD, is this about right? I now have 78% of Stagecoach after about 2 days.

How do I get VLC?

Thanks for your help.

500k equals about 62KB/s, so that will be your max speed.
The only torrent I found for Stagecoach is 695 MB, with only 6 seeds and 12 peers(leeches). I'm assuming that's the one you are currently downloading.
So yes, I would say 78% in two days sounds about right.

In my previous post you can click on the words that are underlined and that will get you to the site to download VLC player and also to the BT information section of this site.

It should take you around 4 hours to download a 700Mb file if you get decent speeds throughout the download.

500k equals about 62KB/s, so that will be your max speed.

Don't forget that the features (or rather restrictions) of PPP will make that a bit slower than that. I have a 256/64 connection so that should make my top download speed 32KB/s right? Well, on FTP using GetRight I constantly get 26.6KB/s. This does not count bursts.
