Doom 3 patch 1.3 will not allow the update !!!!!

Hello,

I have boaught and paid for the game doom 3. However my disc is damaged and I can not install the game again. I have a copy of the doom 3 in program files that I copied back over after a system crash and re-install.

Now I am trying to update my version of doom 3 with the patch 1.3. It wont let me continue because it says the game is not installed properly.

Can anyone help in telling me how to either bypass this check or how to register the game in the registry so it all looks ok for the patch, it would save me having to buy the game again.

I have managed to get past this problem. I went to the Activision Support page and did a search in the forums for DOOM 3 PC, I was told to correct a registry setting and it worked.

Even though it goes past the version screen, it can not find a vaild instalation of doom 3 so I had to browse manualy. The patch looked as if it was installed but did not.

Please help

I may have the fix. I had to reload my game and found the same problem....patch 1.3 said it was already installed. I will post 2 ways because as I have seen, Their are a couple different fixes you may need. First you search your c drive to find out that your " add or remove" program does a crap job.The below instructions are for an Advanced user. Please do not attempt
the below solution if you are not comfortable editing the Registry.
Damaging the Registry could result in very adverse effects to your system.


After uninstalling the game, it will be necessary to remove the
registry keys the patch creates. Please be cautious when working with the
registry as it is very sensitive. Deleting the wrong thing can result in
complete operating system failure.

1) Click Start button > Run.
2) At the prompt type: REGEDIT. The registry editor will open.
3) Click the "+" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
4) Click the "+" next to SOFTWARE.
5) Click the "+" next to Microsoft
6) Click the "+" next to Windows
7) Click the "+" next to CurrentVersion
Click the "+" next to Uninstall
9) Delete the key named {584267B8-0BB0-4D18-9FFA-726576619E9A}
10) Delete the key named
InstallShield_{584267B8-0BB0-4D18-9FFA-726576619E9A}
11) Click the "+" next to InstallShield Uninstall Information
12) Delete the key named {584267B8-0BB0-4D18-9FFA-726576619E9A}
13) Close the registry editor


After doing the above, you should be able to reinstall the game and the
1.3 patch..................................................................................................... If thats not the fix, try this
You will need to manually create a registry entry for Doom 3 before you can install the patch. For this to work you must have installed to the default directory (c:\program files\Doom 3).

1) Click Start, then Run.
2) At the prompt type "REGEDIT".
3) Click the "+" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
4) Click the "+" next to SOFTWARE.
5) If you see an Id folder go to step 8.
6) Right-click on the Software folder and select New, then Key.
7) Name the new folder Id.
Right-click on the Id folder and select New, then Key.
9) Name the new folder Doom 3.
10 Select the Doom 3 folder.
11) In the right window pane right-click and select New, then String Value.
12) Name the value "Version" without the quotes.
13) Open the Version string value by double-clicking on it.
14) In the Value data field type "1.2" (without the quotes).

If completed properly you will have a key named "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Id\Doom 3". This key will have a string value named Version with a value of 1.2.

Before the patch will install you must make sure you have entered a cd key for the game. Launch the multiplayer portion of the game. Click on multiplayer options. Click on the "Enter CD Key" button to enter your cd key.
