DESPERATE!! need help wiv burning

Postby Daddy Cool on Fri Jul 09, 2004 1:32 pm

Ok guys
Im so frustrated with this sodding thing, its probably really simple.
I've followed the tutorial on this site, to convert my downloaded files.
Now whenever i burn all i end up doing is burning to data. ive used Deepburner & Burn4free with the same results.. a coaster. Am I being dumb? Do I need a different burning program, if so which one?
I have a dvd-rw drive & rw disks.
Please help me, im beginning to loose my cool!!

thankyou very much.

And I get frustrated when you think I can read your mind. What tutorial? Converting what to what? The word "burn" simply means burning the information you have from your hard drive onto disk. If you are trying to convert it, what are you trying to convert it to? What is the source? And what do you need it for, for a standard stand-alone dvd player (non-avi compatible) to be able to play it? In that case the only way you can burn it to dvd and have it play is by converting it to dvd format. So again, what is the source (dvd, avi, mpeg) and what tutorial are you referring to?

Sorry it was late when i posted that last message..
Lets try again;
I've downladed some MPEG & AVI files from WinMX that I want to watch on my normal DVD player, but keep hitting a dead end whilst making the damm disks, i.e. burning only as data. What am I doing wrong? & what is the difference between MPEG & MPG??
The 'tutorial' I was referring to was the one envolving the Virtualdub and TMPEnc programs, (converting AVI to MPG) am I in the right direction using these programs? I really do not have a clue anymore.
Thanks.

In order to watch them on your "normal" dvd player (I take that to mean that it is not avi-compatible) you can't burn them as data and watch them. You must convert to mpg (vcd or svcd, almost all players read vcd, you will have to see if yours plays svcd). VirtualDub is not the program to do it, as that is more a program for working with avis and converting TO avi. Yes, TMPGEnc is what you need to convert avi to mpg. But it seems to me that you need to do a bit of background reading first, so you know what you need and why, and you can find all the info you need in this FAQ section, including a tutorial on TMPGEnc Plus that's easy to follow:

I'd just like to post this thankyou.
As your probably aware I have nearly no experiance with this sort of this but thanks to your help I finally can sit in the comfort of my own living room and watch my movies. It was beginning to really get to me, I even lost a nights sleep because of it (sad I know). So I just wanted to let you know how greatful I was for your help, and once again thankyou very very much. You've made a simple man happy again. Keep up the good work. Here's hoping I won't be visiting this place anytime soon.
Cheers
