DAT to WMV

Postby citizenbuck on Thu May 11, 2006 9:26 am

I'm trying to convert a DAT file to back to WMV (from a MMS://.. site), but when I try to run it through SPD Downloader v2... I get the following error message - "TTCP: socket connect failed: 10060"

This seems to happen a lot all of the sudden. Anyone know what I can do?

All I can do is help you convert it to mpeg, I wouldn't touch a wmv file with a 10 foot pole anyway if I could help it:

It won't convert... says it "could not locate MPEG Stream."

Could that be because the source file is WMV? Or is it just really well hidden? Any advice?

Could be, how did a wmv file become a dat file anyway? I thought it might work, but I guess it doesn't. Doesn't the dat file play on your comp?

It's an online movie. I ordered it and paid for it, but the wmv is an incomplete file (only about fifteen minutes of the two hour movie). I've complained a thousand different ways, but I keep getting the same automated response.

However you can view the entire film on a web site... and it saves as a DAT file in my temp folder, but I can't view the DAT file unless I'm connected to their site.

Oh, well what I assume you paid for is to stream the movie, but not download it. I.e. you can watch it but you can't actually save it and keep it because the movie is DRM protected. The DAT file probably only contains information that allows you to continue where you left off, etc.

Just to follow up. Apparently I couldn't download the file because the company's system crashed for a few days. I just went back to the site and saw an announcement apologizing for the error. I re-entered my order numbers and am in the process of downloading the file right now.

How funny. I spent all that time trying to pull a file that wasn't there.

Anyway, thanks dap OLD werewolf! You rock!
