The canadian recording industry association (CRIA) was defeated today in court. It has been trying to force the ISP's to give names and addresses of 29 of its subscribers.
Based on the decision there might not be any copyright infringement at all. File sharing legal in Canada? Would seem so. There was a recent case where a library provided photocopiers to it's patrons, in the final ruling the library was found to be not guilty just because it provided photcopiers near books. The judge in the CRIA case said "the meer fact files are shared on a p2p doesn't amount to distribution..." and refered to the earlier court case.
