Converting OGM files

Postby mjolnir13 on Sat May 22, 2004 11:17 pm

OK -- I'll try this again. I was mistaken before. The video format is OGM. Can someone recommend a program to convert these files to AVI and/or MPEG?

I've read the descriptions of a number of video converter proggies but none of them even mention OGM.

Thanks much.

while it doesnt tell how to convert them, it does tell how to play them. and from there you should be able to figure out how to convert them.

Is there any reason that you need to convert them to avi or mpg? An ogm is like an avi, just a different type of container. And many apps will play them, like bsplayer. If you have trouble playing them, you can also get the kit I have on my site:

You'll need 2 things if you can't get a decent converter, OGM(OGG) codecs & an OGM(OGG) compatible player.

http://www.free-codecs.com provides the codecs free.

K-Lite Codec Pack 2.26 should do the trick. If however you have some rare files using uncommon codecs, K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.02 should cover it. BTW K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.02 also includes the BSplayer mentioned by dap OLD werewolf.

Personally I've got no experiences using BSplayer but Zoom Player from download.com runs well for me :)

BTW I'm new here, hope it's not against rules to post live links.

The link I gave above is a complete ogm kit, with codecs and player and instructions. Once again I just want to ask, why would you WANT to convert it, considering even tho ogm is not compatible with many other players and might take installing an extra player to work, it is considered to be top of the line in compression formats, ogg top of the line sound as well. Converting it will only result in a quality loss.

Personally I'm not a supporter of the K-Lite pack, and yes it does include BSplayer but not the latest version, which you can get from http://www.bsplayer.com

Sorry I took so long to respond -- been away from the boards for awhile.

I only wanted to convert it because I wasn't familiar with the format and, like many, wanted a format I was more familiar with -- you know, "newbie paranoia" and all that. I had no problems playing it as I've been using BS Player for quite awhile now.

Thanks for your responses though. They are much appreciated.
