Connecting two computers with 2wire up to MX

Postby WildfiresFantasies on Fri Apr 25, 2008 7:01 pm

I am trying to get two computers that are hooked up to a 2wire router hooked to MX through a firewall. I can only successfully get one computer at a time to work through the firewall. What can I do to fix this so that both computers can be hooked to MX at the same time? Besides completely taking the firewall down.... lol

Many Thanks,

Are both on different ports?

One is on the default tcp6699 udp6257, the other we were trying to use the same ports (6699, 6257), but realized that we had to be on different port. We are not having success finding other tcp and udp numbers that will work.

What I am calling a router is a box that has four outgoing lines in the back so that you can hook up four computers to it with dsl wires...one phone line.

Hi Vladd, any help would be useful bro, I think it's pretty much the firewall settings not allowing both through. When we use the basic port forwarding numbers for both machines 1 can use it but the other can't while connected to MX, or vice versa.

OK.

Give me the details

1. What Model of 2wire router?
2. By firewall, are you talking of a hardware firewall?

You mentioned one working at a time and basic port forwarding, when you changed a second one to different ports, did you forward those ports through your 2wire router as well? You will need 4 ports forwarded (2 for each computer) for winmx to work properly at the same time. :niceday

1. Model of 2wire = 2701hg-b
2. Firewall = firewall within in the 2wire unit (I have my windows firewall shut down and he has his windows firewall configured to allow MX through it.) Yes the ports were changed in the 2wire unit, but haven't had a success with that yet... (We have successfully modified the 2wire firewall to allow the default ports for Rebel's Mx to work. Just not mine....)

This is what I have been doing to change the firewall settings. I have been first changing the tcp and udp within Mx. Then I will shut it down and reopen it. Then I will go into the firewall settings for the 2wire and and use those same numbers there. I have been getting error messages about invalid ports, etc.

--------------

I am going to try the numbers that Mick supplied and see if I can get those to work.... I will come in and say whether they do or not. :-)

Thanks to you both!

I tried the numbers that Mick supplied... and I got an error message that says : ERROR
An application name must be entered that begins with a letter or a number.
Invalid Port (or Range).

I tried to name it 1mx, 2mx, WinMx which are all different from what Rebels ports are named which is mx.

Here is a list of numbers I have tried: tcp,udp ; (7001,4125)(6701,6300)(7001,6559)(16699,16257)
