seems the partition for the recovery is fat32 and the rest is ntfs so you just about have to use partition magic to wipe it , convert to logical then to ntfs. have tried it twice and crashed my computer twice so i'm giving up and will wait till i can afford two new harddrives since this model is set up for two. thanks for the help anyway. as always peace (by the way anyone who buys a HP is nuts this one is only a year old and been sent back to HP 9 times for various problems and none taken care of.)
