Chastised!!

Postby newvillepa on Thu Sep 28, 2006 3:28 pm

This is my first post, so I am a newbie. Please be gentle.

I have been chastised by two users for having slow download speeds. In the column that says K/s, my speeds are usually around 0.30. Is this normal???? ONE time, I connected at 3.0, but that was a rarity.

Some basic info:

Using WinMX 3.54 beta with the WinMXGroup patch. It' says "Patch Operational". I tried the Pie Patch, with no improvement, and am back to this one.

I am connected using a cable modem into my ethernet port. I did a speed test on the internet (while running WinMX...oops) and my d/l speed was 45 K/s. I have a firewall (NetDefense) using ports 1720 and 1755. I've changed them around with no improvement. My XP firewall is disabled.

I've spent days searching the net and tweaking my settings (bandwidth throttle, queuing, etc), but to no avail. I tried the vladd help room in WinMX, but there was no response.

People don't want me downloading from them, because I am slow. What am I doing wrong???

why don´t you try secondary ?
go to winmx settings ---> winmx peer network ---> allocated bandwidth
what is standing in the white box next to them ?

The allocated bandwidth in this box is set at 15 KB/s out and 22.5 KB/s in. Is this too high. What exactly is this setting?? What should the other two settings below be??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went to the HelpRoom last night. I am definitely getting datd going through my modem, just getting slow speeds in MX.

Many of the songs I am looking for have only one source. I'm starting to wonder if speeds of 0.30 are normal for downloading from a single source on an OpenNap network???
