do you have "permission" to install? - either logged on as administrator or your user account allows for installation of new programs? Might also want to check the folder where the exe is and make sure permissions are set to allow "read/write" if you do then maybe dl'ing another copy is in order
might want to try azureus or torrent storm out ... both are better clients than BT 3.3
As of today 1/23/04 (things will change in the future) there are a couple problems with torrentstorm and azureus, both awsome gui frontends for BT. I use both and like them well.
With azureus - i noticed 2 problems. I would have memory leaks and cpu spikes. What that means in simple terms - azureus would use every bit of memory and suddenly 'dump' all it was using. This pattern would continue as long as the program was running. Not bad with 1 torrent open, but have more than that at the same time and it became very bothersome as the cpu usage would go to 100% and basically "freeze" the computer momentarily. A well documented fix was available - DOWNGRADE you java client (install) from JRE 1.4.2 to an older version JRE 1.4.1_04. After applying this fix - i do not have the problems anymore. If you have this similiar situation give it a try - just google "JRE 1.4.1_04".
Torrentstorm has the ability to individually limit bandwidth for each file, that azureus doesnt have yet. However Torrentstorm has 2 problems going on right now that are not being addressed very well by the software developer. First is the bad scraping results. Almost every scrape is resulting in bad results. From what i was able to read on the Torrentstorm forum, the developer is pointing fingers at other people, not admitting a flawed product. But hey - you cant complain about free, right?? Anyway - that problem doesnt affect the ability to download in anyway - and things work great. Seeding a file with torrent storm is a whole nother problem. Until a new, fixed version is released you should NOT seed a file with the program.
I am not taking credit for this find, only passing along info to peeps who read this forum. It was originally posted, or found, on Phoenix Torrents, and has since been posted to the torrentstorm forum.
Hopefully the developer will fix these problems shortly as torrentstorm is a great product.
And i hope azureus will add the ability to limit individual upload ability.
To the relevance of this thread - I believe bsa may have hit it on the head. I can only add 2 thoughts.
1 - the transfer you got for the client did not complete, and is corrupt. Try to retransfer.
2 - If you downloaded the "new official" client from the suprnova.org pop-up, well that install contained spyware and has since been killed. Get it from the real sources
