Can't connect now to WinMX for some reason

I tried to fire up WinMX and it just sits there blinking. I tried to access the help room and can't get there either.

I clicked Chat and put "Vladd44 Help Room_234D0E74411C" to the right of filter, hit Join and nothing happens.

I'm also getting an error when I tried to manually update PieUpdater;

"Error while updating HOSTS file. Please make sure that an internet connection is available and the file is not marked read-only. Path/File access error."


A couple of months ago WinMX worked with no problems so I don't know what's happening now.



Edit: Well after having WinMX open for about 15 minutes, the light finally turned green.

Mike89, what is the sentence u see on the left of yr Ignored button at the top of yr winmx (the Ignored button is the one with the red circle on it?) <<< pls answer this ... it is the 1st step to the troubleshooting process.

My room Vladd44 Help Room_234D0E74411C is up and ppl have got in with no problem. So I guess the problem is on yr end. But that's alright I can help u here or on yahoo msg, np :

What was in there was what was supposed to be there (I'm at work now so can't quote it). WinMX version 3.53 and lastest PieUpdater. I had accessed the help section fine before. If you remember, you helped me out in there once not too long ago where we were trying to get a primary connection (we never could). You determined it was Comcast that was blocking (and even posted that in a previous thread we were in). Everythng worked fine then (from the Secondary connection). I hadn't used WinMx since then (and had made no changes). Then last night when thinking of a song I wanted, I tried WinMX and had the issues I stated my last post.

I'll try again when I get home from work today.

Ok, got home. I used option 1 (take check out of read-only for HOST file) and it worked. I can now manually update PieUpdater.

I opened WinMX. Took about 3 minutes but the light turned green. I tried the help line and got in this time.

Dunno what was up yesterday.
