blurred image after converting

i have an avi file into mpeg format. when i view it using tmpgenc/wmp the picture in clear and sharp. but after converting it and viewing it in WinDVD4 the image is nowhere near as sharp and a little blurred. anyone know how i can sort this? thanks.

You will always lose quality converting an avi to mpg (vcd or svcd).

Converting to svcd as opposed to vcd will give you better quality, but make sure that your dvd player supports play-back of svcd.

Oh and of course the best solution would be to just buy an avi-compatible standalone dvd player (divx player). If you're in the U.S. Philips are selling them at Walmart for $69.99.
