bittorrent causing timeouts

Postby SupriorPDS on Fri Dec 02, 2005 3:05 am

whenever i start up azures or bittornado (havn't tried any others), i can bearly access the internet. everything times out. and this is before i even start a torrent up, it's just the program running. torrents also have trouble keeping connected with the tracker. all the symtoms go away after i close bittorrent.

anyone got any ideas? Trend doesn't find anything and i'm updated.

Cap the upload to 80% of your capacity.

You may need to cap download as well, but try to cap ul at 80% first.

well, i already was capped at 40kbps out of my supposed 60 max. it started to happen when azures wasn't online so i decided format my comp. so far so good. though i'm guessing that's it's actually one of the torrents that i was downloading thats corrupted my comp. we'll see if it does it again.

No reason why a torrent file should do that on its own. But good luck.

re: bittorrent causing timeouts

hello, i use blueyonder and bittorrent. until recently i had the same problem. whether my upload was capped or not, bittorrent screwed my connection and i couldn't browse the web etc. As it turned out the problem was my router. I have a Linksys WRT54G, by default it keeps all connections open for 5 DAYS!!! I fixed this by installing a third party firmware to the router. See the FAQ @ www.utorrent.com for more info. Everything works now, i can use my connection for the web or anything else while BT is going. Hope this helps, Nick.
