avi to mpeg conversion problem

Postby eric on Thu Apr 29, 2004 4:13 am

Upon following the guide for converting avi to mpeg (posted on vladd44.com), I noticed the avi file i have has a fps of 14.98. On step #3, i am a little confused as to which option i should choose for Mpeg setting template. Please help, thanks! :)

Hmm... I wonder what kinda idiot encoded that to avi. THis is gonna be a tough one... you can try selecting whichever suits you PAL or NTSC - BUT... i would bet that either tmpgenc might not want to do it, or else after the conversion you will have audio sync probs or other. You might want to go and do some research on how to change fps (perhaps on www.dvdrhelp.com), but if I were you, I would just watch that one on the pc. Changing the framerate is never a good idea in the first place, but usually people ask about changing from PAL to NTSC and vice versa. I never had a situation like yours, and if I had an avi with fps at 14.98 i would probably scrap it, or at least not touch it.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll take your advice and just scrap it. I downloaded the avi from a popular p2p program. Actually i downloaded several different files of the same movie and found out that they most had an fps of 14.98. Anyways, thanx again for your help. This will save me time and from further frustration.
