Just started as in your avi was fine yesterday but today it jumps? Or just started as in it was ok in the beginning and halfway through it starts to jump?

Make sure you have the needed codec and version installed.

and check your CPU usage - might be some other program running using all of your system resources so the player cant use them

if you're on a Windows NT based system then right click the task bar (a space where there are no programs) and select Task Manager

CTRL+ALT+DEL would cover a windows XP system with one pertucular configuration... the majority of XP configurations will prompt with an aditional menu (and other NT systems will always prompt with that menu) which you then have to select task manager on... right click the task bar is a way of doing it thats the same across all NT systems - thats why i said that way :-D (btw, i actually use CTRL+SHIFT+ESC which is also standard across all NT systems, but some people would find right clicking the task bar easier)

You may have your problem corrected buy now, but I had the same problem when my hard drive got in PIO mode. I got it back to UDMA 5 mode and problem was fixed. Windows XP changed the mode after having some errors. Fozj

if you have XP, you should try to watch your AVI files with VLC, because Real Player gives me the same problems: does anyone knows how to switch the player from Real Player to VLC ? Thanks Frank

Anyone who uses RealPlayer deserves... oh nm...lol
If you mean how to make VLC or any of the other good players like bsplayer your default player, go to settings in the player you don't want and uncheck the filetypes you want it to play by default, and check the filetypes you want to be played in the player of your choice.

I couldn't find file association settings in VLC's preferences within about 10 seconds, and seeing as this is about as long as your average newbie will look before giving up, I figured I might as well post the 'other way'..

- find a file of the type which you want to be associated with VLC that currently opens with another crap program
- hold the SHIFT key and right-click that file
- go to the 'Open With...' options, and if necessary, 'Choose Program' underneath that menu
- choose VLC from the list, or choose 'Browse' and navigate to the VLC exe
- tick the 'Always use this program' box
- click OK.

;)

then a shorter way would probably be to unselect the video filetypes in realmedia player, and reinstall vlc - almost every player asks you what filetypes it wants you to have it play by default upon installin.
