Audio Codecs

Howdy Gang!!!

I've run into something I'm hoping someone can give me a solution for.

I had (and may possibly still have) files that would not play correctly in BS Player (or WMP for that matter). The problem was the audio track. Neither player had the codec to play the audio.

However, the files do play correctly Videolan's VLC Player.

So, my question is this: is there a way to find and incorporate VLC's audio codecs so these files will play in other players?

What was the audio codec? ac3? ogg? VLC might have a codec in it which is player-specific, and VLC might have something that plays ogg, for instance. After you find out which codec it is that you need you can install the codec separately and it should play it, unless it's something like ogg vorbis, which might have some problems with wmp (but should definitely play in bsplayer if you get the codec). I found a list of all the audio codecs used by VLC. Turns out it was AC3, which I installed separately, and all the suspect files now play.
