I had the same problem with Ares trying to connect, I installed the latest version without un-installing the previous one - that seems to have cured the problem. Thank-you everybody!! :D

That just works temporally. I did that and the problem kept coming back... unistall ares and then install the new version, or ull have to install ares every time until ur cure wont work anymore :D

Ares stoped working for me about a week ago, I thought it just needed an upgrade so I downloaded and installed Ares (full) Version 1.8.1 Build 2965 but it will not connect still.

I installed over the old verion, then I unistalled the old and installed the new, the I unistalled again and deleated the reg files and installed the new one again.

Still nothing is happening, Could someone give me some feed back on this?
Is the ares network down?
Is ares just crap now?
Am I just a loser?
Should I go for a new p2p program?

Thankyou

I also have resolved my problem now.

I installed lime wire, kazaa ressurection and kazaa media desktop to see if they where any better but i didnt like them so i unstalled all that crap then deleated my reg files again and deleated the 2965 installer i had downloaded before, then downloaded a new copy of the ares installer build 2965 and now...

Everything seems to be working fine, it take about 30sec to a min to connect.

Just download the latest build of Ares from their official website and wait 'till it connects, it may vary between 30 secs and 5 min or something like that but it WILL connect, just be patient. :D

The latest versions of ares is packed with adware. May also have spyware.....i am not downloading em.

There is a port that needs to be opened for ares to work properly but i never had to do that......so i think the problem is with ares servers and not the users....i think they are doing this on purpose to force users to get the new version packed with adware........

As someone has already said here, just delete any large files from the Library!

It worked fine for me...I deleted all the software I had downloaded (I say "all", it was only two programs :P ) and it went from saying "connecting..." to "online" almost instantly.

I recommend that you try the same before downloading updates and new programs etc...

Remove the Connect At Startup option, in the configuration.

I solve the problem with this.

Ares Not Connecting

Postby Strigoi on Tue Jun 28, 2005 12:01 pm

Clearly alot of you are used to MX or a different kind of P2P, when theres a problem on Ares, its fixed immediately, that can mean several BUILDS per week, ares has versions ( 1.8.1 ) then builds ( 1.8.1:2966 ) when you have a problem with ares conencting, or files not finishing get the latest BUILD immediately , Ares galaxy's website only list the VERSION ( 1.8.1 ) but they will always have the latest BUILD on there website. http://www.seekar.com/setup_ares.exe this is the direct link for the latest BUILD, close your Ares, install over, it will retain your current settings. you can find what build you have by going to C:\Program Files\Ares then right clicking the Ares.exe Properties / Version, the latest Build is 2966, these come out rapidly so youll need to stay on top of it, Ares has grown very rapidly and continues to grow daily, the Coder for ares Comet Seekar keeps on top of issues, and resolves them by issuing new BUILDS, ares is a great network, i encourage you all to try it, ive hosted there for 2 years, and cant complain 1 bit. Just remember to update Ares at the first sign of trouble.
