abusive message spamming. overiding the ingnore settings

Postby beermugs on Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:27 am

hi i am a new member to this forum and like to mention winmx is great. but i had a problem with a person who knows how to get past the ignore settings and spammed with name calling and idiotic messages about punctuations. i managed to stop him by the incoming messages privacy buttons (unchecked everything there) or the person just gave up ....lol but is there another way to stop this kinda thing on winmx? maybe winmx monitor? anyways hope he is not a hacker ...lol and the name this person used was...

ABBA, Please Come Back

i know it is temporary but the person was annoying. also is it possible to affect the winmx program or the uploads and downloads by sending large numbers of messages ....it seems not to have affected anything as yet ...but would it be possible? from the sound of this i bet others was the subject of this abuse also and may not know enough to stop this kinda thing. unfortunately i don't know how to get his ip address to permanently block it or submit it for abuse.

i not impressed about this person's mentality but does have some ability to manipulate winmx.

thanks for any input on this

Just get *ABBA, Please Come Back*'s ip from the host of the room he was in. The host would know. Then trace the ip and ask the host of the room to firewall the range in his firewall. End of story.

MXMonitor can't do that.

No.

There is a way to use TCPview to do that. Involves a little investigation work but the method I told u above is easiest.

Alternatively, come to this Vladd44 Help Room for help (which u can enter whether u r connected to winmx or not). Just follow the instructions here to enter it : http://www.vladd44.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6514

<<< I can walk u thru it all in that room.

hmmmm not sure this person was a he or she or that the person was from a room, it did not look like it (no room tag on his name as if that matters) so i rather doubt that is a solution. he/she was disgruntled about some thing and he/she was able to bypass the ignore setting, he/she show up a number of times (7) in my ignore list under the same moniker and id numbers and i have not been bothered since. as to following up on getting his ip addy this was the only time i had this trouble with any one so i will let it pass but will bookmark the site you were talking about and use it if it persists.

i also wondered if viruses or backdoor trojans could be sent through these im's and if you heard anything about that kinda thing? although i doubt that was done in this case, i didn't notice any changes and will do a virus scan shortly.

thanks Love for the speedy and informative reply

No, u can't send or receive any virus or trojan thru WinMx ims. Beware of downloading from them tho.
